Seeking convergence on requirements for the use of next generation global electronic business standards Working with standards groups such as OASIS (www.oasis-open.org) and UN CEFACT as well as with Invinet (Spain) and other companies around the world SystML has been working closely with organisations and companies around the world, to establish and help meet requirements for business information standards for global use. SystML is promoting realistic architectures such as modularity and profiles and levels for meeting various technological capabilities without unnecessarily compromising interoperability. Then SystML and co-operating companies compare such levels and profiles considered appropriate by government agencies, etc., to meet their respective national requirements. SystML has produced next generation web forms (XForms) for completing an invoice or other standard business document according to as broad a range of local national requirements as possible. Eventually, it is hoped, common subsets can be agreed which cater for a large and small, proprietary and opensource applications to create electronic documents which can be useful anywhere in the world. There are barriers to be overcome such as establishing a common understanding of the various requirements of different countries for setting up and conducting next generation electronic business (such as for procurement and export). Understanding developments in a fast changing electronic technology culture in various parts of the world is crucial in the race to improve the use of modern electronic facilities and infrastructures to meet the demanding needs of businesses everywhere.
